Disclosures at George Mason
The Commonwealth of Virginia and George Mason policy require every employee to disclose personal interests.
Every year, employees must update their disclosure profile in RAMP, George Mason’s Research Administration Management Portal, declaring any outside personal financial interests you may have or confirming that you do not have any personal interests that require disclosure.
The types of personal interests that must be disclosed are covered in more detail in the Conflict of Interest and Conflict of Commitment sections of this website.
Additionally, if you serve, or plan to serve, on a proposal for research funding, you must also disclose significant financial interests. These are interests related to your institutional responsibilities.
Understand the Difference
Conflict of Interest
Situations in which a personal interest may compromise an employee’s objectivity when performing research or making decisions on behalf of the University.
Individuals are required to disclose when they have an ownership stake of 3% or more of a company or when they, a spouse, or person living in the same household receive $5,000 or more annually from a company. For researchers, any ownership in a privately held company related to their research must also be disclosed.
Conflict of Commitment
Situations in which an individual has a conflicting obligation between the University and another entity, typically based on time, responsibilities, or use of university resources.
Individuals may be required to seek prior approval for certain outside activities depending on the type and level of conflict.
